Requiring LockDown Browser for Tests

Note: Respondus LockDown Browser is a secure web browser used for taking tests in Blackboard that prevents the user from accessing other programs or web pages while taking a test. Tests designed to be taken in Respondus LockDown Browser cannot be accessed through a standard web browser and cannot be closed until the test has been submitted for grading.

Note: Do not use wireless or satellite Internet connections. Tests may not submit correctly when using either of these types of connections and your answers could be lost.

Setting a Test to be Taken with Respondus LockDown Browser

To set a test to be taken in Respondus LockDown Browser, the test must already exist within Blackboard.

1.   From within your course in Blackboard, click Course Tools under the Tools heading on the left sidebar.

2.   Click Respondus LockDown Browser from the list of options. A page should load with the list of your tests.

3.   Click Modify Settings next to the test you want to require students to take in Respondus LockDown Browser.

4.   Select the option Require Respondus LockDown Browser.

5.   Click Submit. The test should now be ready for students to take in Respondus LockDown Browser.

Installing Respondus LockDown Browser

You do not need to install Respondus LockDown Browser to require it for Blackboard tests, but it is recommended that you install the browser so that you can test it.

To ensure that the browser works with your test, you will need to have a student account in your course site, the site will need to be available, you will need to open Respondus LockDown Browser and you will need to log in with the student account to check that the test is locked down correctly.
