Journaling Tips & Suggestions for Students

All students will keep and maintain a travel (field) journal. The journal has two primary functions:

  • First, as an educational tool, the journal will be used to record information given during the pre-travel Orientation Meetings. The student will include in the journal notes on all research, reports (made by you or other members of your delegation), exercises or games, guest speakers, and program expectations. And, during the travel phase, the student will record their observations and experiences and note how the actual travel experience differs from their pre-travel expectations. The information recorded in the journal will then be used by the student to validate their pre-travel studies and to complete the academic assignments required in the post travel phase.
  • Second, keeping a journal can provide a long-term record which documents the student's travel activities and provides an historical, cultural, and social perspective for future reference.

Objective:

Students will understand the purpose of the travel journal and recognize appropriate and inappropriate topics / entries.
