Get Lit! Teacher/Writer Dialogue
In 2005, and again in 2006, local writing experts met with educational professionals from Spokane area school districts to exchange ideas about how to teach writing in K-12 classrooms. The forum allowed working writers and professional teachers to share their perspectives on writing instruction. The three-hour event consisted of presentations, panel discussions, general Q&A, and tips on setting up an author visit, as well as writing sessions. Panel topics included:
- Writing Across the Curriculum
- Poetry as a Skill Builder
- Meeting State Standards While Keeping Writing Fun
- Writing to Understand Ourselves
- Creating a Successful Writers Workshop
- Radio Writers: Authentic Purpose, Authentic Audience
- It's All About Revision, and Anyone Can Do It
- Panning for Gold: Finding, Selecting, and Using Authentic Detail
- Igniting Delight in Students (and Teachers): On Writing Poetry
- Freud to FaceBook: Laying a Strong Foundation for Writing Fiction
The forum has not convened since 2006, but we plan to offer it again in the fall of 2009. Please contact Danielle Ringwald, program coordinator, at dringwald@ewu.edu if you would like to help organize this event.
