Let's Get Physical

Update your professional knowledge and enjoy a healthy dose of mental conditioning this summer. Focus on your sport as you earn undergraduate credit at your own pace with any of the following self-support distance learning summer courses.

 

  • Summer Camps (PHED 497-60 - 3 quarter credits)
    This class provides teachers and coaches with the tools to evaluate and apply their previous experience in the development of Summer Camp activities from any sport: volleyball, basketball, wrestling, etc.
    Outcomes - Develop a unit incorporating new summer camp techniques and increase your knowledge of summer camp experience.
  • Trends in Sport (PHED 497-61 - 3 quarter credits)
    The course work explores the design of multiple-station fitness programs with variable and inclusive fitness and health goals for coaches and teachers to incorporate into current and new curriculum.
    Outcomes - Develop a unit of specific health and fitness goals, incorporating pre/post measurements for muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility.
  • Nutrition for Competition (PHED 497-62 - 3 quarter credits)
    This course is designed to provide physical educators and health teachers with units and/or classes covering nutrition as it applies to conditioning.
    Outcomes - Develop a unit or topic with specific nutritional recommendations that include daily dietary choices and menus. The unit will demonstrate eating and exercise relationships.

About the Instructor

Jack Benson, EWU professor emeritus, is a retired member of Eastern's Health, Physical Education and Exercise Science faculty. Benson taught at Eastern for more than 30 years, is a former high school coach, and an ACSM-certified Health Fitness Instructor. Registration Information:

Simply complete the Registration Form and return with tuition payment to the address provided. The course syllabus will be mailed to you upon receipt of your registration. Please contact the Office of Continuing Education if you do not receive the course materials within ten business days. Registration is open from May 23 to July 15, 2011. All students will receive a numeric grade at the completion of the course. Effective winter quarter 2012, EWU Continuing Education credit courses will be assessed the mandatory technology fee of $3.50/per credit. Please see the Mandatory Fees page at Financial Services for additional explanation on mandatory fees.
