Courses for Teachers Currently Available for Distance Learning
Eastern Washington University offers a variety of courses for credit or clock hours. The following courses are offered in DVD format for the distance education student. Course descriptions are listed below.
Ideas and Strategies for a Changing World, 5 credits
- Identify and implement skills for Guided Language Acquisition Design (GLAD)
- Develop the necessary skills to assist students to "peak perform" perform at peak
- Learn the objectives and results of the Kindergarten Readiness Program
- Develop fitness, nutritional and wellness activities that lead to peak performance
- Identify methods and instruct post-modern learners
- Discover local career pathways
Skills and Techniques for the Contemporary Educator, 5 credits
- Identify & implement components of the "Step-Up to Writing" national program
- Develop conflict management skills as they relate to peers, parents, students, admin
- Discuss and assess the value of homework as recently studied by the NEA
- Develop tools for effective classroom organization
- Develop fitness, nutrition and wellness activities that lead to effective performance
- Develop classroom PowerPoint skills
- Identify and expand gang awareness
- Discover local career pathways
Educational Excellence, 5 credits
- Object aware of current educational practices & techniques for classroom management
- Use various presentations & concepts on a variety of educational topics to create dynamic lesson plans
- Work collaboratively with other professionals to develop strategies for classroom use
Teaching for Tomorrow, 5 credits
- Develop instructional strategies & techniques for classroom use
- Examine current educational theory & practice; including, but not limited to, Legal Issues in the Classroom, Computer Microsoft Word & Excel skills, 7 Keys to Comprehension, Classroom Management Project-based Learning, Socratic Seminars, and Differentiated Instruction
Bridging the Gap K-12, 5 credits
- Improve instructional techniques for their respective classrooms
- Exposed to current educational practices including, but not limited to, computer skills for educators, using DIEBLS DATA, Higher Order Thinking Skills, Special Education Practices
- Work collaboratively with other professionals to develop strategies & lesson plans for use in their classrooms
Expanding Your Instructional Methods, 5 credits or 50 clock hours
- Define & apply the methods of differentiated learning
- Construct lesson plans utilizing differentiated learning methods
- Identify the four basic personality styles and associated learning patterns
- Develop lesson plans that motivate the four basic personality styles
- Develop methods for dealing with parents / peers using the CARP method
- Develop fitness, nutritional, wellness activities to lead to effective performance
- Discover local career pathways
Current Trends in Education, 3 credits
- Enhance ability to teach effectively
- Become aware of current trends in education
- Work collaboratively with peers to deepen their professional understanding of current educational topics
- Develop competency with their topic & then share new knowledge with other Professionals
Experiencing Educational Resources Online, 3 credits
- Enhance ability to teach effectively Utilize the Internet to find innovative resources for classroom use
- Use information / resources from the Internet to design lesson plans
- Develop competency utilizing news groups and list serves to access educational resources
